Hyperliquid Strategies Inc. (Nasdaq: PURR) said its board of directors has authorized an increase to the company's stock repurchase program, raising the total authorization to $100 million from $30 million. The board also extended the program's termination date, pushing it out to October 31, 2027, from its original expiration of December 5, 2026. The company said approximately $72 million remains available for repurchases under the expanded authorization.
A share repurchase, or buyback, program authorizes a company to buy back its own outstanding stock up to a set dollar amount, rather than committing it to purchase any fixed number of shares by a set date. The release said Hyperliquid Strategies may carry out repurchases through open market transactions, privately negotiated transactions, or other methods permitted under federal securities laws, with the timing, volume and price of any purchases left to management's discretion.
The company describes itself as a digital asset treasury company built around HYPE, the native token of the Hyperliquid blockchain network, aiming to give U.S. and institutional investors capital-efficient exposure to the token through staking and yield strategies. The release said the increase "reflects the Board's confidence in the Company's long-term capital strategy and provides flexibility to buy back PURR shares as part of the Company's broader treasury management framework."
The company said the timing, number and value of any shares repurchased will depend on the stock price, market conditions and legal requirements, and will remain at management's discretion. It said the board may extend, suspend or discontinue the program at any time without notice, and that there is no guarantee as to how many shares will ultimately be bought back.
Beyond the dollar figures, the revised expiration date and the board's general statement of rationale, the release provides no additional detail on the buyback program.
